Suffering for the Sinner!!!
“My God, My God why have you forsaken Me?” – Mark 15:34
Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which is translated, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" (Mark 15:33-34 NKJV)
This is the cross beam of Jesus’ final day. This is the phrase which gives context to all that was said and done that day. “Jesus did not ask for deliverance but for presence. Jesus’ nearly last prayer was, ‘God, where are you?’ The gulf of sin was bearing down on His soul. He felt that chasm between holiness and hell and cried out …..God where are you? God groping for God. The suffering of Jesus the Son is a definition of who God the Father is and what the Holy Spirit does. God in the flesh suffering as the payment for the very thing God cannot be near – sin!! We need to realize that by not coming down off the cross in glory Jesus was proving He was truly the Savior who would do anything and give everything for the lost. Providing a way for us back to God through the suffering on the cross! This is why He came, this is what He suffered – as sin – for the sinner, so we would never have to feel this terrible, dark, aloneness – this separation from the Father!! We never have to go through what Jesus did but we should always honor what He did for us that day for us!! The perfect, spotless, selfless Son bearing all on our behalf!!! What we do with this amazing, precious gift is up to us!!
