“Father, into your hands I commit My Spirit” – Luke 23:46
- Then the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two. And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, "Father, 'into Your hands I commit My spirit.'" Having said this, He breathed His last. (Luke 23:45-46 NKJV) Back to Father’s hands….beginning & ending in prayer….Straight from His heart He spoke. This was between Him and God. Being so near to death He was attentive to nothing any longer but His soul. The way that He died is what is so stunning, even in His death He is teaching us. He is teaching us, in the last word from the cross that there is a way to do it!! He had told us He is the WAY, the truth and the life – now here He is teaching us that even in His death. He had started these 6 hours addressing the Father and He finishes that way. His unity to the Father was so strong that He wanted Him to be a part of all He was going through. In doing this He was giving us an example we are to follow in all we go through. There is a way to do things!! I’m sure those who stood near wanted His suffering to end as much as He did but He knew there was a timing, God's timing, so He trusted God through the process. Immediately when He left – in the darkness, the earth shook and the temple veil was torn from the top to the bottom. Suddenly the pressure of God’s love becomes so strong that we can hardly bear it!! Eternity forever changed on this day and with these final words His suffering ends and our freedom begins.
