Creating an Atmosphere
There are some places we just love to be. It may be our favorite restaurant or a coffee shop where there is just something about it that makes us want to be there. Atmosphere is a powerful dynamic. We all want to be in places where we feel loved and valued. Most of us would much rather be in an atmosphere of peace rather than chaos. Understanding our role in creating and affecting the atmosphere around us is vital in living transformational lives.
We often wrongly assume that we have no bearing on the things around us. Nothing could be more Biblically incorrect. Even in the creation of man the first directive God gave to Adam was to affect and literally dominate the atmosphere around him. “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth’” (Genesis 1:27-28 NKJV).
First of all our own identity originates and propagates out of God! The first thing God does to His new creation is to speak ability and empowerment to him. Prior to God’s releasing assignment He releases blessing. The word blessing in the Hebrew language carries the connotation of empowerment. “Adam, I’m empowering you to prosper! I’m authorizing you to win and I’m you to enabling overcome!”
In this atmosphere of affirmation Adam is to govern his world. He is to legislate his atmosphere. When I imagine Eden – it would be one of those places we would love to be – like best vacation ever. We would love it not only for its lavish beauty and pristine landscape but for the atmosphere of peace and Presence. Let’s have a paradigm shift here: If Adam was responsible to maintain the atmosphere of the Garden do we have less responsibility in maintaining ours?
I know you’re thinking – girl, you do not know my crazy life!!! I just want to say, God does and He loves you so much that He wants to work through you to bring transformation, peace, and Presence where things may not be so great. This is one of the reasons Jesus came. He came to save us from our sins and from sin, the sin that destroys lives and corrupts our world, the sin that breaks families and steals our peace. I know all of us would change many things if we just thought we had the power to. Jesus died to give us that power to bring change. It’s part of the mission of the great commission and His restoring our authority over the enemy and this world system.
“And then he told them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. 18 They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won't hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed’” (Mark 16:15-18 NLT).
In a nutshell, believers have the power to bring change! We have majored so much on the miracles that we have missed the miraculous empowerment we have been given to affect change in our everyday lives, in the atmospheres of our homes, and in the antagonistic culture that is pressing us to conform.
One of the ways we can bring change and affect atmospheres is by the words that we speak. This Good News must be spoken! We must take the example that God gave us in creation. We must take on our God-given identity, receive His image, and function out of that image. If we want to create something different we must speak something different. If we want an atmosphere of blessing we must speak blessing. Jesus taught about bringing the treasure that is inside of us out into our world. Christ is our treasure!! “However, we possess this precious treasure [the divine Light of the Gospel] in [frail, human] vessels of earth, that the grandeur and exceeding greatness of the power may be shown to be from God and not from ourselves” (2 Corinthians 4:7 AMP).
Please let’s not miss the power of this! Christ in us is the catalyst for Christ through us which will produce Christ around us! One of the ways we can produce this is through our words! Out of the Treasure in us – speaking words of life and light into our atmosphere!
Jesus brought correction to the religious leaders of His day! They should have understood the power their words carried to impact the atmosphere and lives around them. “You offspring of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil (wicked)? For out of the fullness (the overflow, the superabundance) of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man from his inner good treasure flings forth good things, and the evil man out of his inner evil storehouse flings forth evil things” (Matthew 12:34-35 AMP).
Let’s begin to accept the reality that we indeed can create atmospheres around us and in our homes! Jesus has regained authority for us that must be released in the world to gain ground for His Kingdom. Choose words of blessing and empowerment today and watch transformation begin to blossom!
Heavenly Father, thank You for empowering me! I am not at the mercy of my environment! You have enabled me to release my Treasure! I long for Your atmosphere to be mine; please help me to walk in greater measures of this every day!
