Can we be Honest?
What is our perspective on our lives? Do we assess things or are we just going through the motions? Are we aware of God’s Presence or are we just trying to get to Friday? How are our hearts? Are we intentional about loving people or are we just trying to “get the job done.” Can we be honest?
There’s a great danger of being sucked into the vortex of life rather than intentionally expressing God’s love and the kingdom upon the culture of our world. I have a favorite saying: “Any dead fish can float downstream.” And I always add on: “Don’t’ be a dead fish.” Are we swimming upstream against the culture and pull of the world system or are we just going with the flow? Can we be honest?
We are created in the image of God. This is a profound Biblical truth. This image carries with it empowerment - empowerment to create as our Father did, to influence and affect the world around us, to implement change, and bring life and help to our world! Are we in the world and not of it? Or are we just in it? Can we be honest?
Who we are and Whose we are is phenomenal! God has called us to be over-comers! “Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us” (Romans 8:37 AMP).
Overcoming is part of the believer’s DNA! Think of the possibilities this affords! Every situation we find ourselves in we should ask ourselves: “What could the power of God accomplish here?”
Often we are buried by our circumstances, inebriated with negativity, and heavy with the problems that we face. We must remember that we very well could be the answer God has placed in those very circumstances! If we are honest we will admit that we are often more influenced by our circumstances than affecting them.
The first step to change in any endeavor is to honestly assess where we are. It would be invaluable for us to awaken ourselves and shake ourselves from the “hum of the road” mentality. We must stir ourselves up to be aware of our surroundings and God’s heart to break-in in every conceivable way! He wants to be seen through our pain, present in our panic, and bring calm to our chaos. In the high octane pace of our lives, He desires to bring stability and direction. Christianity as a belief was never about “adding” God to our lives. It is about allowing our lives to be shaped by God and His values.
Can we be honest, maybe painfully so? How much God-evidence is there in our lives? Not just our Sunday mornings but the parts no one else sees every day. Again it's not about perfect behavior, it’s about Him being seen and glorified in our lives. He honestly desires to touch us, love us, and love through us more than anything. Let’s be honest and partner with Him in this with all of our hearts!
Wow God! I can sense you tugging at my heart for honesty. Meet me here and take me to what you see for me and my life! I don’t want what I imagine Christianity to be. I want the real expression of You through my life. Help me to see what this looks like. In Jesus’ name and for His glory, Amen!
