Do We Get God??!
One of the greatest difficulties in life is to be misunderstood. We feel as if we want to plead with that person to understand our heart and our intentions. In a sense, we want to resolve whatever is between us and be at peace with that person. We want to be known as we really are. There is no one more misunderstood than God and I can’t imagine how painful this is for Him.
“The loss of the concept of majesty from the popular religious mind. The Church has surrendered her once lofty concept of God and has substituted for it one so low, so ignoble as to utterly unworthy of thinking, worship men. The low view of God entertained almost universally among Christians is the cause of a hundred lesser evils everywhere among us” (Tozer, A.W. “The Knowledge of the Holy,” p. vii).
I believe more than anything God wants to be known. He has worked throughout history to reveal Himself to mankind. Even in His creation of the human race…He didn’t just created a being and plunk Him down in the garden…He walked with Him and talked with Him. He allowed for Adam’s participation in the governing and administration of His creation. This was no obscure existence. God’s intention in creation was for relationship and partnership. God didn’t want to just run a “corporation” – He wanted to be known.
When satan brought temptation to God’s man, his primary target wasn’t to get them to eat something. He wanted to create a gap between the truth of Who God is and Adam’s perception of God. Satan’s goal was to initiate misunderstanding of God and it’s been going ever since! He always pretends to know God and wants to transmit his corrupt and twisted version of God to us! How often satan does this today…he twists circumstances…relationships…torments us with thoughts that God is uncaring and uninvolved. He wants us to believe that God is harming us and hating us…nothing could be further from the Truth.
When we feel as if God doesn’t love us it is time for us to look long at the cross, to gaze upon love’s sacrifice and get it! The God Who gave up His Son because of love will not cease in His love for us! It cost Him too much to gain us for Him to frivolously cast us aside. His love is strong and steady and unchanging!
